Dame Helen Mirren will not be moved. Sources report that the actress is ignoring protestors who are demanding that she drop out of an upcoming biopic about disgraced music mogul Phil Spector. Spector, credited with creating the "wall of sound" technique in the studio, was convicted of murdering actress Lana Clarkson. Clarkson's friends are protesting Mirren taking a role in the HBO film.
Mirren will play Linda Kenny Braden, Spector's attorney. Mirren is replacing the injured Better Midler in the role.
The Friends of Lana Clarkson sent a letter to warn Mirren she faces "serious consequences" if she doesn't quit the controversial film, which they fear will portray Spector in a sympathetic light.
The group's spokesperson, Edward Lozzi, said, "We have great respect for Helen Mirren. What we hope is that when she reads this script and sees Lana is being trashed, she will speak up and say, ‘This is not right.'" Wow, that letter sounds a bit threatening, no?
A representative confirms that the beloved star has received the letter but refuses to walk away from the project, saying, "She's in the movie. She's not dropping out. That's all she's saying."
Al Pacino will play Spector in the film.
What do you think of Helen Mirren's decision to take this role? Should she drop out?
