The guitar Jimi Hendrix set on fire at London's Astoria in March 1967 was sold for $497,500 at a London auction on Thursday. Daniel Boucher, a fan from Boylston, MA, snagged the 1965 Fender Stratocaster after making a special trip overseas.
"I thought I'd have to pay a little bit more for it, actually," he told the Associated Press. "I am going to play it, I hope some of it rubs off on me."
Other key items at the Fame Bureau auction included the Beatles first contract (co-signed by George and Paul's fathers, and sold for more than $426,000) and Elvis Presley's concealed gun permit, which was packaged along with a set of fingerprints for $81,740.
