Herbie Hancock Scores Headline Slot At Playboy Fest
The 2008 Playboy Jazz Festival announced its lineup on Wednesday, including headliner Herbie Hancock and such artists as Al Jarreau, Tower of Power, Keb' Mo', the James Moody Quartet, Roy Hargrove Big Band, and Ryan Shaw. Set to take place on June 14-15 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, the event will be hosted by Bill Cosby, who'll help celebrate the festival's 30th year along with his group, the Cos of Good Music."When I heard it, it moved me," Cosby told Billboard.com, when asked about his love of jazz. "Then I wanted to hear it again and we've been friends ever since.
Speaking about Mr. Playboy himself, the comedian added, "Hugh knows and respects jazz. For that [Playboy] banner to be there 30 years ago is fantastic."
The first-ever Playboy Jazz Cruise was also confirmed this week. While it won't graze the ports of San Juan, Saint Bath's, Nevis, and the private island of Half Moon Cay until January 25-February 1, listeners can expect a stacked lineup including Poncho Sanchez, Dianne Reeves, and the young pianist known simply as Eldar.
