Actress/singer Hilary Duff and Kevin Zegers are in talks to star as bank robbing twosome Bonnie Parker and Clyde Brown in The Story of Bonnie and Clyde, which will not be a direct remake of the 1967 classic, Bonnie and Clyde. The role of Bonnie Parker will mark a grownup change of pace for Duff, who is known for her squeaky clean film roles.
Tonya S. Holly will direct the drama. Holly promises that her version will focus on the Depression-era bank robbers in a way that hasn't been attempted before, doing so by looking at aspects of the lovers' lives that have not been told on-screen in previous incarnations of their story. Holly decided she wanted to direct a new version of the Bonnie and Clyde legend after finding newspaper clippings about their exploits in an abandoned house on her family's property. The director recently helmed 2006's When I Find the Ocean, which starred Diane Ladd.
The film will shoot primarily in the South, in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. No release dates or further casting decisions have been announced at this time.
