Howard Stern has signed another five-year deal to stay on air at Sirius/XM. Stern announced the happy news on his radio show Thursday morning. As someone who listens to the replay of the replay of the replay every day, this news just made my life a lot better and quelled some of the uneasiness I had been experiencing while Stern's status was in limbo. I have been listening to Howard Stern and crew for the past 20 years and I can't imagine a morning without them.
"I have come to the conclusion that the real innovators, the real geniuses are the people here at Sirius," he said. "I have signed a five-year contract to stay at Sirius."
Stern did not disclose the financial terms of the deal, simply stating that the contract was "very fair."
The bad news, though, is that Stern said that he probably won't renew again. "I can say with almost certainty that this is my final five years on radio," he said.
Let's hope that when this contract expires in 2016, he has a change of heart and extends for a few more years.
