Hustle & Flow Director a Mother Trucker

Hustle & Flow writer/director Craig Brewer will write and direct Mother Trucker as part of his development deal with New Regency. The film is described as an update of the 1977 chase movie Smokey and the Bandit, a driving-themed comedy that starred Burt Reynolds, Sally Field, and Jackie Gleason.

The film is not only an update of the action-comedy original, which featured Reynolds as a race car driver who tries to transport a shipment of beer in a day, but is also based on a Maxim article authored by writer Steven Russell. Mother Trucker will follow a man who escapes from jail, steals a truck and drives across the South to visit his dying mother. He does this all the while being tailed by cops.

Moving Pictures will produce the film.
