Actress Q'orianka Kilcher, who played Pocahontas in the 2005 period piece, New World, which also starred Colin Farrell, was arrested yesterday at The White House, according to reports from The Associated Press. The 20-year-old Kilcher tied herself to a fence, while her 41-year-old mother doused her with a black substance. While I can appreciate the sentiment of staging a rebellion on the doorstep of the leader of the free world, I'm not really sure how much change the mother and daughter duo forced with their actions. I can say with confidence it probably won't do much to boost Kilcher's not-very-existent career.
The actress will face disorderly conduct charges, while her mother is charged with defacing government property. Both are due in Washington D.C. Superior Court on June 9, according to a report in LA Times.
Kilcher's agent confirmed the arrests and stated that the actress is a "strong supporter of indigenous populations around the world." Mother and daughter were protesting a visit from Alan Garcia, the president of Peru, as Q'orianka's father is a Peruvian Indian.
Is this an effective way of voicing one's political views? Have you ever staged a protest?
