Iggy Pop, Florence, and Patti Smith are all set to appear in a new Terrence Malik film, Song to Song. Starring in the film are Rooney Mara, Ryan Gosling, Michael Fassbender, and Natalie Portman. The film is set to premiere March 17th.
Indiewire explains the premise of the film: "In this modern love story set against the Austin, Texas music scene, two entangled couples — struggling songwriters Faye (Rooney Mara) and BV (Ryan Gosling), and music mogul Cook (Michael Fassbender) and the waitress whom he ensnares (Natalie Portman) — chase success through a rock 'n' roll landscape of seduction and betrayal."
Back in 2011, Malik was shooting scenes of Gosling on stage with YACHT, Big Freedia, Neon Indian, and more at Austin, Texas' Fun Fun Fun Fest for a film then entitled Lawless. The film later changed its title to Weightless and now has become Song to Song. According to IMDB, Benicio Del Toro, Val Kilmer, and Cate Blanchett are all supposed to appear in the film, while Patti Smith, Lykke Li, the Black Lips, Iggy Pop, Florence and the Machine, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers are also set to appear either as cameos or as performers.
Despite all the famous names listed, it is not guaranteed any of them will make it through the final cut. Famously, Malik cut scenes with Gary Oldman, Viggo Mortensen, Martin Sheen, Mickey Rourke from his 1998 film The Thin Red Line.
