India.Arie to Star in Broadway Play
Grammy winning, R&B superwoman India.Arie is set to star in the Broadway revival of the Tony nominated play "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When the Rainbow Is Enuf." Shirley Jo Finney has been tapped to direct, while Hinton Battle will choreograph. The play, which depicts the stories of seven women of color from the African Diaspora, ran for two years on it's initial Broadway run in the 1970s. Previews for the new run begin in mid-July, with an expected opening in early August.Arie won praise in the past for her turn as legendary vocalist Nina Simone on an episode of American Dreams.
