Learn how the young band made their EP.
Maryland's Bad Seed Rising have got the gusto to take over rock music, and they're barely out of high school. The youngest band ever to sign to Roadrunner Records—Francheska Pastor [vocals, guitar], Mason Gainer [guitar], Louey Peraza [bass], and Aiden Marceron [drums]—recently released a phenomenal EP, A Place Called Home, and now they're tearing up stages across the country. Singer and guitarist Francheska possesses true star power, and it's undeniable the moment she starts singing. We chatted with her and Mason in this exclusive interview about the EP and more.
What was your vision for A Place Called Home?
Francheska: We originally had several songs, and the label wanted us to put out an EP. They told us that we needed 5 songs. They wanted "Carry On" and "Six Feet Below," and we said we wanted to add another song on there.
What's the story behind "Six Feet Below"?
Francheska: As always, Mason comes up with a riff, and we all work around it. They made up the music for it, and I was listening in the studio and tried to write some lyrics about it. I just wanted to write something personal, and it was about a relationship—two people who work really hard to make something happen and it doesn't work out. Sometimes you just aren't meant to be.
The song has real dynamics.
Francheska: Thanks, dude. I remember that when we wrote it, we wanted to have a heavy breakdown and give it some life and not have it all be entirely slow.
How did "It's My Time" come together?
Mason: We were working on song ideas a few weeks before the studio, and I brought that one in. We had a bunch of time to focus and work on it.
Francheska: We are all teens here, and it was about people telling me who to be. I got so fed up thinking about it because people tell me how I should portray myself or how I should do certain things. I don't want to do the things that people tell me, because it's not me. People try to change who I am and I don't like it and this song is about pushing all that away—this is my time.
