Grammy nominated R&B singer and songwriter on Cuffing Season, inspirations, storytelling, and so much more.
Eric Bellinger's got a Grammy Award nominee and his first major label project, Cuffing Season [300 Entertainment] dropping this year, July 17, 2015 to be exact. However, the Los Angeles R&B maven has put in more than the requisite time, and it's going to pay off in a big way. He's got an immediately irresistible voice that carries big vibrant hooks over soulful instrumentation with the panache and power of a classic crooner. You can hear it clearly on his most recent single "iPod On Shuffle," but it drives the entire record. That's why he's on his way to taking that R&B crown. In this exclusive interview, he tells us all about Cuffing Season, collaborations with Chris Brown and 2 Chainz, and so much more.
Cuffing Season represents the vision you've been working towards with The Rebirth and everything else.
We have been really patient along the way and never rushed it. We've been working so hard over the past few years. I think that a lot of artists are caught up in the fame and spotlight and that they might make a wrong turn. They become real cautious; we were not like that at all.
It opens up the door to tell a real story.
I am definitely excited for sure. I hope that I can continue to be this consistent with the new work. I have held these songs in for a year and knew that people would be extremely excited to hear them.
What's the story behind "iPod on Shuffle"?
Before you heard this song, you were already in a certain mindset of the nineties R&B, and I really wanted to put a reflection of this time into people's heads. Lyrically, it is about an intimate evening with your lady and turning it up with that special person.
