New group features members of The Ready Set and The Summer Set.
Nekokat gives us a different kind of pop on Communication. It's undeniably catchy, yet it's electronically enchanting and devilishly danceable. The new project from Jordan of The Ready Set begs multiple listens ASAP. In this exclusive interview, he tells us all about Communication and so much more.
What threads the EP together for you?
The songs are all about communication-related and things that people would say conversationally than in songwriting. I wanted to make things feel natural and tie themselves together. It is different for each of them. There is a theme or a story about each of them.
When did that theme or vision make itself known?
Cameron and I were writing and realized that we were writing in this more conversational style. It was his realization to write about communication. I thought it was cool and went with it. We wanted to write more about it from that perspective.
Is communication something that's always on your mind?
Answer: Definitely, I think that with my other band it was such an important thing for me to be on. I was always so active in social media-for this type of music feels a lot less. I feel that I can distance myself and not just have to be the only one communicating. It makes it a lot less stressful—not everything is on my shoulders. I have not been in a "band" for about eight years now.
What's the story behind "Gimme A Break"?
It means being true to yourself and not basing what you do on other people. It has been countless times growing up that there is a weird lack of identity. It comes from living in Los Angeles, everyone is here trying to carve out their way, who they are. It is kind of about losing that lack of identity and not thinking too much about it.
