Interview: Shanell Talks "Rise Of An Empire" and "Nobody's Bitch"
Mon, 10 Mar 2014 10:12:31
You'll fall under Shanell's spell as soon as you hear her. This siren has got an immense voice with heavenly power that immediately envelopes you. That divine power makes her one of Young Money Entertainment's secret weapons and most incredible assets. You've surely heard her belting out those big harmonies on tour with Lil Wayne, but you'll really hear her shine on "Catch Me At the Light" from Young Money: Rise of an Empire [Out March 11, 2014].
"I'm so excited about this," she says. "We're all back together, and everybody's on fire. With my EP coming out this year and the mixtapes, it's great for everybody to hear and see me with my Young Money family doing music. It opens up the next door."
Readying Nobody's Bitch, it's clear everybody's going to get the real Shanell—like always.
"Wayne encourages everybody to be themselves," she continues. "He's like, 'Here's your deal. Be the best that you can be'. We do it ourselves, and we're respected for that."
At the heart of it all, she's also got a crucial message that resounds just as loudly as her pristine vocal delivery. "I want people to feel free to talk about and be who they are," she concludes. "I really feel it for the females. I want to uplift women to be themselves and be proud of whatever it is they do. Even if you're making mistakes in life, don't let that hold you down. Learn from your mistakes and keep going. If you want to tell a story, tell it your way."
