Now, Travis Barker knows music, tattoos, and cars as well as anybody. He's bringing those three passions together under one roof at this weekend's MUSINK Tattoo Convention & Music Festival at the OC Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa, CA. Not only will Transplants and Tech N9ne be tearing up the stage, but there will be a myriad of world class tattoo artists and killer custom automobiles, making for the ultimate three-day celebration of all things rad...
So, ARTISTdirect.com editor in chief Rick Florino spoke to Travis Barker in this exclusive interview about MUSINK and so much more.
If you were just attending MUSINK as a fan, how would you spend your day?
I'd spend the day trying to get tattooed by all of the great tattoo artists that are all under the same roof during that one time and peep a couple of cars. Then, in the afternoon I'd watch bands like The Descendants, The Vandals, Transplant$, Tech N9ne, Gorilla Biscuits, etc.
Did you go to conventions like this as a kid?
There really weren't conventions like this when i was a kid. However, I will say it would've been my dream convention.
What are you most excited about at the festival?
Just seeing so many great bands combined with so many great tattoo artists all in the same place in a matter of three...
For you, what connects music, tattoos, and car culture?
I think they all go hand-in-hand. Music, tattoos, car culture and skateboarding scream, "Southern California", and I'm proud to have them all be a part of this event.
When did you first get into Tech N9ne's music?
I first got into his music about six years ago. We collaborated on a track called "Raw Shit" on my solo album. He's the best!
What have you been listening to lately?
I've been listening to everything really. I'm listening to a bunch of songs that Transplant$ are covering for our covers album, and I've been listening to a lot of Yelawolf too because I just finished playing sets with him at SXSW so there were 28 songs I learned and played last week. I tend to listen a lot to whatever I'm working on at the time.
What’s next for you?
Next for me is finishing up this Transplant$ covers album and slowly beginning working on my next solo album and whatever else anybody throws at me [Laughs]. I'm just blessed to be busy doing what I love.
What's your favorite song Travis Barker has played on blink-182 or otherwise? Will you be attending the MUSINK Tattoo Convention & Music Festival?
