The R&B songbird is signed to Colombia Records and she has worked with producer Salaam Remi (Amy Winehouse, Nas), in addition to having her song, "Love is My Disease" appear on Alicia Keys' latest album, The Element of Freedom.
Go here to nab it and here to listen to it.
Here's Meleni Smiths back story: Born in Flint, Michigan, raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Meleni Smith began singing at the age of six. Brought up by a Jamaican mother, Meleni never knew exactly where she fit in this world but she knew that music helped her find HOW she fit in it. Her voice is a mixture of raw soul with an intense rasp that will send chills. Her electrifying melodies take you on a ride the moment you press play.
She is currently working on her album as well as continuing to write for other artists. Signed to Columbia Records in 2005 only to not be released, Meleni has seen her fair share of setbacks. But a voice like Meleni's is not easily silenced. She got the attention of many notable hitmakers in the industry (Babyface, Stargate, Cee Lo Green, and Toby Gad to name a few) who helped her keep her dream alive. The way Meleni sees it, the accomplishments and the setbacks are equally important pieces to the entire story. "This is a marathon, not a race. Just when I don't know what will happen next, a door is opened. I am just grateful to be given a gift that I can share with others.," says Meleni. Producer Toby Gad (Beyoncé, Fergie) says Meleni is "a true star, one of the industry's amazing hidden secrets."
