Is a Petition About Getting Beyoncé to Comb Blue Ivy's Hair Newsworthy?

Earlier this week, an online petition was launched, imploring Beyoncé to comb daughter Blue Ivy's hair. It got a handful of signatures and sparked a heated debate. Baby Blue, who turned two in January, has lots of tight and beautiful curls. She is a baby. She does not need a flat iron or tons of hair tools or accessories or anything else. She can wake up and go because she is a child and should not be held up to crazy beauty standards or norms. LEAVE HER BE(Y).
The petition caught fire in the media, with critics lambasting it and gossip sites covering it. We watched it but didn't report on it, since it felt like non-news and like we would be giving even more attention to something a bit too ridiculous to process, since we all know that Blue is a baby and is beautiful and the petition was dumb.
But now we have changed our minds about covering it and want to get your opinion. No, we are not asking what you think about the petition because we are pretty sure that 99 percent of you will think it's idiotic. However, we want to know what you think about the media and the 24-hour news cycle getting in on the coverage.
Granted, we are stoking that cycle ourselves by writing this very post, but we like to put the mic out there and allow readers to have their voices heard. This is your site and your platform, so go ahead, comment and offer your opinion. We want to hear it. Discuss. Debate. Rinse. Repeat.
So have at it, ARTISTdirectioners. What do you think of the coverage of this story?
