Rumor has it that Ed Sheeran could be quitting music at the end of his current tour. Sources close to the star have revealed that he may take a break to live a "more normal life."
The ginger-haired pedler of MOR acoustic pop, whose latest album "÷" has surpassed a million sales in the UK and spent 13 weeks at the number one spot with single "Shape of You," is currently on tour in the UK, and you'd be forgiven for thinking that life seems to be going well for the multi-million selling 'everyman' of the music industry.
However, according to a source close to the "Shape of You" singer Sheeran could be ready to take a back seat in music, or perhaps even quit the scene forever. Speaking with English tabloid the Daily Star, the source discussed Sheeran's plans once the world tour is over: "Ed has pretty much achieved everything there is to achieve in music… He absolutely loves what he does and is riding the wave of his success at the moment, but at the same time he wants a more normal life."
This new speculation echoes the sentiments of a recent interview with Sheeran, who spoke out to say that becoming a father would prevent him from touring in the future. The source confirmed that Sheeran would put his wife and kids ahead of a musical career, and would possibly break for five or ten years before releasing any more albums. The unnamed source said: "When or if he gets married he wants to put his wife and kids first and not his career. If that means going AWOL for years then so be it."
Sheeran, who has previously associated with some pretty famous love-interests, is currently dating his high school sweetheart, Cherry Seaborn — they've been going steady for two years. The source said "The big test is if the relationship survives this album and the tour, "When they got together Ed was on his year off but every day in his schedule for the next year is practically full."
Whoever the source is, there may be some truth in the speculation. Sheeran is slated to headline this year's Glastonbury festival and to continue working a highly successful album cycle. For a famous homebody and lover of normal life it seems like Sheeran could have normalcy in his sights.
