The Donald's daughter Ivanka Trump is being sued by designer Derek Lam, who claims she copied one of his creations.
New mother Trump received a cease-and-desist letter from Lam demanding she withdraw her $150 Cadie wedge shoe from the Ivanka Trump Footwear Collection, since it looks way too similar to one of his own creations.
Lam suggests that Trump's lower price point shoe is a copy of Lam's $780 Ayami design.
Jan-Hendrik Schlottmann, chief executive officer of Derek Lam, told the fashion trade Women's Wear Daily that "We have seen very similar copies before but we have never seen a shoe that perfectly copied." So they are saying that Trump's shoe is a direct knock off!
However, officials at the distribution company behind Trump's collection, Marc Fisher Footwear, dispute such claims.
A statement from the firm reads, "The Lam wedge sandals are of a popular design type that has been used by numerous manufacturers for many decades. There is nothing iconic about the appearance of the Lam sandal. The Ivanka Trump sandals prominently display the Ivanka Trump name, and there can be no confusion as to the source of the Ivanka Trump sandals."
So Trump's people are basically saying it's a simple design and that it's not iconic to the Lam line.
