Country music hunk Jake Owen recently sat down with Larry King at L.A.'s famed Greek Theater for an episode of Larry King Now.
The two chatted about the singer's first big headlining tour, getting drunk on his first night opening for Kenny Chesney and how he'd love to be able to grant wishes for people.
Like all singers, Owen began his career opening up for A-list headliners. In his case, it was Kenny Chesney. He reflected back on that experience, saying, "As an opening act all you want to do is absolutely crush every other person that you're playing with and you want to step on the headliner."
That's an honest answer. When you open, you want to become a headliner, so you take that experience and your learn and grow.
Owen also spoke about how he attended Florida State and was on the golf team, but a waterskiing accident forced him to undergo shoulder surgery that ended his career.
Also, he randomly decided to pick up a guitar and began singing, something he enjoyed as a child. When he was 10, his brother inspired him in a random and not obvious way. "I promise this is the honest truth – I'll never forget just kind of singing along to a song, and my brother and I were sitting in the backseat of the car one time, and he was like, 'Mom, you should like do something with Jake, because I think he can sing okay.' I'll never forget Jared said that.'
