Busted and paying for it.
The Associated Press reports that James Brown's former manager has been sentenced to three years of home confinement stemming from charges he took more money than he was rightfully owed under contract from the late soul singer in his final years! Cheater!
David Cannon, 72, entered an Alford plea to two counts of breach of trust. The plea does not admit guilt, but acknowledges there is enough evidence for a conviction. Okay, so he doesn't admit that he did what he is accused of, but knows that it looks like he did what he is accused of. Sticky, sticky, sticky!
Cannon was supposed to receive five percent of whatever Brown made in a year. However, five percent was not what he paid himself. Instead, he took closer to 15 percent! He was also accused of stealing part of a $900,000 check, but his defense says that was a misunderstanding. Attorney Gregory Harris says Cannon was owed the money.
Does the punishment fit the crime here? What is your favorite James Brown song?
