Jamie Foxx is producing a Marvin Gaye limited TV series. Marvin Gaye's son, Marvin Gaye III, will serve as an executive producer. He said, "This project will be a powerful and definitive telling of Marvin Gaye's life story," reports The Hollywood Reporter.
A variety of people, from F. Gary Gary to Lenny Kravitz, have tried to get a Marvin Gaye biopic made over the last several years. However, none have gotten the blessing from Gaye's family until now. It's fitting that Foxx has become the man for the job - he memorably portrayed Ray Charles in his biopic Ray. And Foxx said of the development, "I've been a huge fan my whole life. His brilliance in music unparalleled. Marvin Gaye's story has always fascinated me."
Suzanne de Passe and Madison Jones of de Passe Jones Entertainment will also produce the series, which has not yet been picked up. de Passe is the protege of Berry Gordy, founder of the Motown record label who also gave his blessing to the series and said in a statement, "Marvin was the truest artist I have ever known. I am confident that this is the right team to bring his story to the audience in an authentic and compelling way."
de Passe said of the project, "We've been involved in a number of attempts to get this done, and now that we've been able to marshal all the forces, and Jamie's come on board as a partner, we're excited to get going." They are currently in talks with Sony/ATV to see what songs will be used in production.
