Shapeshifting True Blood vixen Janina Gavankar casts an entrancing spell with her new single "Waiting For Godot", available on August 28 now on iTunes.
The song solidifies Gavankar as a veritable 21st century femme fatale as her hypnotic vocals careen over shimmering strings, noir-ish orchestral swells, and jarring electronics. She slides from sultry to soaring on the hook before a glitch-driven bridge turns the track into a veritable emotional roller coaster. There's classical intricacy and futuristic bombast both colliding underneath the singer's impenetrable voice.
It's an intriguing introduction to a truly enigmatic and engaging artist. "Waiting For Godot" remains one of the best debuts this year, and it only opens the door into Gavankar's world.
Once you fall under this sonic sorceress's spell, you may never be the same. However, why would you want to?
