Jason Isbell Splits from Drive-By Truckers

Jason Isbell has left Drive-By Truckers, as confirmed by online statements by Isbell and DBT frontman Patterson Hood. Isbell initially posted about the lineup change on his MySpace page on April 6th, saying, rather cryptically, "I am not in the Drive By Truckers anymore. Go figure. I wish them luck. I will not answer questions about it."

Isbell later warmed up enough to add that he was "doing fine" and was excited about his new endeavors, which include a solo album due out on July 10th and, in the meantime, some support slots with Son Volt.

Hood went into greater (but still dirt-free) detail in a post on the Truckers website, writing, "Jason joined our band, mid-tour, in the fall of 2001, shortly after the release of our 4th album (Southern Rock Opera). His impact on the band was immediate and profound, bringing an awe-inspiring combination of vocal range, guitar dexterity, and amazing songwriting and leading us into an era of creativity that has resulted in three albums that I will be proud of for as long as I live."

The Drive-By Truckers have a handful of shows scheduled for April and May, including a stop at Indio, CA's Stagecoach Festival, the country-and-western cousin to Coachella.
