On November 19th, Jay Z, Coldplay, and Demi Lovato will headline the first Global Citizen Festival in India. The show will take place in Mumbai and will use crowdfunding efforts through the website Ketto to raise money for children without parents and fund 25 children's homes across the country. The event's non-profit partner, the Miracle Foundation, will help provide educational funds and scholarships.
A number of Indian artists and Bollywood stars will make appearances. The event will also be the first time Jay Z and Coldplay perform in India. Global Citizen Festival is free to attend for those who perform various social tasks, much like Global Citizen Festival in New York. The New York iteration of the festival has been occurring since 2012, and Chris Martin is currently the creative director.
Arnav Sahni, Global Citizen India's spokesperson, said in a statement."Our festival combines music with social causes that have an impact and Miracle Foundation has had a huge impact on vulnerable children. Fueled by Ketto's remarkable crowdfunding platform, we hope to raise money and awareness so the Miracle Foundation can continue to do their inspirational work."
"Ahead of the Global Citizen Festival 2016, Global Citizens around the world took more than 1.3 million actions over three months to:
- Secure 20 new commitments 9 announcements and 14 calls to action to achieve the Global Goals for Sustainable Development.
- Ensure accountability and delivery of 4 commitments made in the past on Global Citizen platforms.
- Push forward 5 campaigns on which further action is needed to ensure that world leaders keep their promises to citizens.
Together, these commitments and announcements are worth $1.9 billion, and are set to reach 199 million people," explains the Global Citizen Foundation website.
