Jay Z's subscription-based music streaming service, Tidal, has just donated $1.5 million to national organization Black Lives Matter, as well as other social justice causes. The Wrap reported Friday, "The donation will be made on Feb. 5, which marks the day Trayvon Martin, the black teenager who was killed in Florida by George Zimmerman in 2012, would have turned 21."
The money was raised during Tidal's Brooklyn concert that took place in October of last year. Jay Z, Beyoncé, Nas, Usher, Lil Wayne, Nick Jonas, T.I., Nicki Minaj, as well as a slew of other stars performed at the event.
The Wrap went on to list other charities that also received donations from Tidal, including: "Opportunity Agenda, Hands Up United, Sankofa.Org, Community Coalition, Dream Defenders, Black Youth Project, Baltimore Justice Fund, Empowerment Development Corporation, Million Hoodies, NY Justice League, Ohio Students Association/Organizing Collaborative, the Trayvon Martin Foundation, the Michael O.D. Brown We Love Ours Sons and Daughters Foundation, and the Oscar Grant Foundation."
Meanwhile, Jay Z's wife and performer extraordinaire, Beyoncé, stole the show during Super Bowl 50's halftime show. She also released "Formation" and a corresponding music video. She also announced a new North American and European tour beginning April 27th in Miami, Florida.
