The NY Times reports today that Jay-Z will finish coming out of 'retirement' to record an album of all new material inspired by the forthcoming movie American Gangster, starring Russell Crowe and Denzel Washington. Jay told the Times that after watching the film, directed by Ridley Scott, "it immediately clicked with me. Like 'Scarface,' or any one of those films, you take the good out of it, and you can see it as an inspiring film."
The rapper, born Shawn Carter, revealed he had a burst of creativity that caught even him off guard. "Watching that film, it brought back all these memories," he said, referring to his days as a drug dealer. "It took me back to those emotions. I'm not even joking with you. It's out-of-body experiences at this point." There is no confirmed track listing for the album yet, nor is there a set release date. Although, American Gangster comes out on November 2, so expect the record to come out around the same time.
