There's just the right amount of grit in "What A Little Bit Of Love Can Do", the first single from Jeff Bridges' self-titled debut album.
That aforementioned grit comes from Bridges' vocal delivery. He nods to country legends like Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard, while infusing the track with a modern immediacy. It's a powerful thing when country is both extremely authentic and readily accessible to a mass audience, and "What A Little bit Of Love Can Do" is most certainly both.
The song mounts from a rustic, earthy acoustic melody into Bridges' infectious hook before cascading into one musical embrace. The Academy Award winner brandished his country chops in Crazy Heart, but he's even badder than Blake in real life, and that's why the track stands out immediately. Bridges has crafted a tight, transcendent, and timeless country track, and it's the perfect prelude of what's to come on the full-length, which will no doubt be a country classic.
There's a reason it's so magnificent, and that's because Bridges has True Grit.
