What's the most popular street in NYC? Broadway? No. Wall Street? No. The Associated Press reports that the Big Apple's street sign tribute to the late punk legend Joey Ramone may be New York City's most-stolen street sign.
The Department of Transportation recently had the "Joey Ramone Place" sign reinstalled in lower Manhattan for the fourth time since 2003. This new replacement sign was raised eight feet to deter theft and to prevent ease of access for those with sticky fingers or drunken bright ideas! The sign is about 20 feet above street level.
The Ramones' longtime drummer, Marky Ramone, thinks Joey would appreciate the most-stolen distinction and said "now you have to be an NBA player to see it."
The sign is at the corner of Bowery and East Second Street.
What New York City street sign would like to steal and mount on your wall?
