Over 40 years ago, the late, great John Lennon wrote a fanboy'ish letter to guitarist Eric Clapton, expressing his admiration and desire to work with the guitar great. The note is going up on the auction block, with an estimate that it will fetch at least $30,000! It's a piece of rock 'n' roll history, hence why it commands that price tag.

In the letter, Lennon wrote, "Eric, I know I can bring out something great, in fact greater in you that had been so far evident in your music. I hope to bring out the same kind of greatness in all of us, which I know will happen if/when we get together."

The letter is dated September 29, 1971.

It will go under the hammer on December 18 in Los Angeles.

Would you bid on this piece of rock memorabilia?
