John Mayer was hospitalized early Tuesday morning for an emergency appendectomy. An official announcement from Dead and Company regarding a scheduled show that night was made on Twitter: "All tickets for the December 5 show will be honored for the rescheduled date. Information on the rescheduled date will be announced as soon as possible. Should ticketholders choose to seek a refund, they will be available at point of purchase."
Mayer's Dead and Co. bandmate Bob Weir posted a photo on Twitter of the pair rehearsing on stage with the note, "Wishing a speedy recovery for John… Get well soon my friend."
Dead and Company have two shows remaining on their fall tour. The first is set for December 7th in Orlando and the second on December 8th in Sunrise, Florida. It remains unclear whether Mayer will be able to play those shows, though the band has yet to make a formal announcement regarding the status of either gig.
Back in April, John Mayer released his seventh solo studio album, The Search for Everything. The album debuted at number 2 on the Billboard 200. It was the seventh consecutive top 10 album for Mayer.
Dead and Company formed back in 2015. The group features Mayer alongside original Grateful Dead members Weir, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart, as well as Allman Brothers' bassist Oteil Burbridge and Fare Thee Well and RatDog keyboardist Jeff Chimenti. The band has released no studio recordings at this time, but all of their concerts from their 2016 and 2017 tours have been released on CD, on iTunes, and are available through their Livedead.co website.
