I ain't missing you at all...since you been gone...away! Oh man, it came from the '80s in a big, big, big (haired) way and we're HAPPY about it.
Rocker John Waite has just launched his new single "If You Ever Get Lonely" and he hits the road for a fall tour starting tomorrow! The song appears on his recently released Rough & Tumble.
Go here to watch the video.
"If You Ever Get Lonely" was a song the Los Angeles-based British singer and songwriter worked on as part of a Nashville writing session in early 2010 with Matchbox Twenty's Kyle Cook. Wait explained, "It's about getting a phone call at night…perhaps the love of your life that you sort of lost track of dials you by mistake or maybe she's out at a party and after a bottle of wine thinks she'll just say hello." What an amazing subject. That's called universal lyric writing, kids! Waite added, "It's one of those things where you pick up the phone and you stop breathing. It's about distance. It's about lives going on after they've been damaged."
The baby fine hairs on my arms literally just stood on end from that description. Who hasn't experienced that emotion? I seriously want to marry JW right about now. He so gets it!
On the upcoming tour, Waite's live performances will include songs from the new album, along with classic hits from his solo career like "Missing You" and the two bands he fronted, The Babys and Bad English.

Did you check out "If You Ever Get Lonely?" It's one of those songs that instantly hits you in the gut with its emotional resonance. Thanks to its semi-acoustic vibe and its poignant, heartfelt lyrics, it's easily one of my new favorites of 2011, steered by Waite's distinct-as-DNA voice. It's a little nasally and it's fully original. That's why I dig him so much!
