Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert bandleader Jon Batiste will curate this year's Global Citizen: The World On Stage event. It is set to take place September 22nd at NYU's Skirball Center for the Performing Arts.
The event boasts an impressive roster of musicians, performers, world leaders, and speakers who will appear, including "comedian Cecily Strong, actors Forest Whitaker, Belgium Prime Minister Charles Michel, Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat. Regina Spektor, Pete Wentz, Stay Human, Aloe Blacc & Maya Jupiter, Moxie Raia, and the Kenyan Boys Choir are also slated to perform alongside Morello and Batiste," reports Rolling Stone.
At the event, Paul Simon will present the inaugural George Harrison Global Citizen Award to the late Beatle. The Quiet One's widow Olivia Harrison, along with their son Dhani, will accept the award on behalf of her late husband. She said in a statement, "When George rallied the music community to respond to a humanitarian crisis, he set an example that artists of all forms of expression have followed to this day. By using his individual talent in an attempt to help others, his legacy mirrors the goals and mission of the Global Citizen movement."
Morello said in response to his participation to the event, "It's an honor to be a part of the historic World on Stage event. Music has been, and will continue to be, an important component of the struggle for a more peaceful, just and humane planet. No one knew this better than the great George Harrison."
