When you can strip back your songs to just an acoustic guitar and vocals, you've got some true timeless talent. That's what Justin Bieber does on his impressive and irresistible Believe Acoustic record, transposing tracks from the blockbuster Believe into acoustic form.
Bieber's voice and playing get the spotlight here, and he shines with legendary soul. Believe Acoustic not only illuminates his extensive natural gifts, but it also highlights the potency of his songs. "Boyfriend" becomes an acoustic R&B love letter that's as infectious as ever even without the massive production. "As Long As You Love Me" could be played at weddings for the next century it's so heartfelt in acoustic form. "Fall" boasts the kind of pensive folk and storytelling that only the best can pull off. Make no mistake about it, he's the best right now.
The three songs recorded specifically for Believe Acoustic shimmer with undeniable power. "Yellow Raincoat" glistens like falling drops on a summer afternoon with pensive, poetic dreaminess. Meanwhile, "I Would" steps along with sunny flavor and smart lyrics. Then, there's "Nothing Like Us", which builds from a soft piano line into one of Bieber's biggest melodies ever.
Believe Acoustic evinces just how dynamic and diverse Bieber as and it further solidifies him as a modern icon with a magical ability to make hearts flutter with a song. It's one of the best pop releases and acoustic albums in recent memory and further reason why he's the 21st century's king.
