Justin Bieber's Believe isn't just the pop event of the year, it's a landmark for the genre. His evolution comes through loud and clear across these thirteen tracks, and he deserves to be recognized as the ultimate 21st century star.
The album touts everything that fans and listeners at large could possibly desire. "All Around the World" slides and shimmies with global energy, perfectly suited for festivals or clubs anywhere. The fiery guest spot from Ludacris brings everything full circle from "Baby", but Bieber is on an entirely new level here engaging a falsetto that will get dance floors instantly rocking.
The there's "Boyfriend", Believe's first hit, which still shines with a sharp sense of humor and soul. Big Sean drops by "As Long As You Love Me", while Bieber once again shows another side of his dynamic and diverse delivery. A staggering beat slips into hand claps for another bigger-than-life ballad.
Some of the best moments come when Bieber's just rocking an acoustic guitar like on the R&B love letter "Catching Feelings". That's where his voice truly shines. The album's standout remains "Fall". It's a massive number that's as sensitive as it is soulful. Once again the acoustic hum punctuates the mood, as Bieber seamlessly shifts from the hook to a powerful bridge that's nothing short of magnificent. Elsewhere, he goes toe-to-toe with Drake for a raucous pop hip hop gem. Then, Nicki Minaj and Bieber roll elegantly through the banger "Beauty and a Beat", that transports listeners right to 3012.
Everything culminates on the inspiring and invigorating title track. It's a tale of strength and perseverance that's infinitely uplifting.
Ultimately, Believe sees Justin standing alone at the end of the day. He's absolutely on par with Michael Jackson, Usher, and Justin Timberlake—of course—but only in the fact that he's unique and undeniable in his own right. Meet pop's king. We're going to Believe in him for a very long time to come.
