Kristine Flaherty, aka K.Flay, has returned with her second full length studio album. Following the initial impact of her breakthrough EP I Stopped Caring In '96, the artists garnered a great deal of attention for her down-to-earth personal take of life as a young woman in a generation whose compass was sometimes spinning in search of north. Inspired by indie-rock thinkers like Karen O, Shirley Manson and Emily Haines, the artist has returned with a set of sharp-edged rock flavored tracks that once again shape hip hop to her unique vision.
Recently signed to Interscope Records imprint, Night Street - run by Imagine Dragons lead singer Dan Reynolds, K.Flay discovered a new level of creative freedom that comes from the support of a collaborator that respects the needs and desires of an artist keen to create on her own terms. The result is an album of personal reflections that have been shaped by the shifting political climate and the deeper realization that there's still a long way to go.
ARTISTdirect's Christopher Friedmann caught up with K.Flay to discuss the responsibility she feels to champion change, her ability to nail the details of a situation, and the balance she seeks between personal and professional ambitions.
