Kanye West abruptly ended his set at at the Meadows Music and Arts Festival in Queens, New York on Sunday, after receiving word that his wife, Kim Kardashian, was held at gunpoint and robbed in Paris, France. West told the audience just before leaving the stage, "I'm sorry, there's a family emergency, I have to stop the show."
A spokesperson for Kim told US Weekly, "Kim Kardashian West was held up at gunpoint inside her Paris hotel room this evening, by two armed masked men dressed as police officers. She is badly shaken but physically unharmed." The Associated Press reports, "Armed robbers forced their way into a private Paris residence where Kim Kardashian West was staying, tied her up and locked her in a bathroom before making off with more than $10 million worth of jewelry, police officials said Monday."
The Meadows Festival released a statement shortly after Kanye's departure, saying, "Due to a family emergency, Kanye West was forced to end his performance towards the end of his set. We appreciate the great show he put on for fans to close out the inaugural Meadows festival. Our thoughts are with West and his family."
This was the second New York festival in a row that saw complications for Kanye. Earlier this summer, Kanye's slot at the Governors Ball festival was cancelled due to inclement weather. This led to talk of a pop-up show in Manhattan that never happened.
Kanye is in the middle of his Saint Pablo tour in support of his most recent album. There have been no confirmation on if any other shows will be cancelled in the aftermath of the event.
