Karen O and Blake Mills will be performing at famed music instrument manufacture D'Addario's music education benefit concert. The event is called Music Makes You and will take place on September 22nd at BRIC Arts and Media Space in Brooklyn, New York. It is being put on by the D'Addario Foundation, the charity arm of the instrument manufacturer. The concert will donate 100 percent of ticket sales to music education programs for underprivileged children.
Karen O will be playing with Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner, and Blake Mills will lead the house band. Also joining them will be Lucius, Kaki King, Marc Ribot, Smokey Hormel, and Julian Lage. The event will be hosted by comedian Seth Herzog.
Rolling Stone reports, "Jim and Janet D'Addario founded the D'Addario Foundation for the Performing Arts in 1981. "We wanted to broaden our commitment," Jim said in a statement. "We decided it would be a good time to create a foundation so that we can expand into more cities and also support other programs."
"D'Addario distributes 10 percent of its annual profits to music education programs. "Through a disciplined application and vetting process we annually support 200 of the best private sector not-for-profit organizations worldwide on the frontline of the battle to improve access to music education," he said."
