For those who are yet to hear of it, Sziget Festival is one of Europe's largest music and cultural festivals. It takes place annually on Budapest, Hungary's Old Buda Island — a 266 acre island in the middle of the Danube. During the course of the seven-day festival, over one thousand performances occur, and this year's bash will include concerts from Kasabian, Interpol, and Vince Staples.
Also included in this year's event Danny Brown, Major Lazer, Billy Talent, The Kills, Metronomy, Flume, Jagwar Ma and Crystal Fighters. The festival will take place from August 9th through 16th, and features more than 50 venues.
Kasabian are currently working on the follow-up to 2014's 48:13 album. Meanwhile, Interpol have confirmed that they are working on a new album. They have also announced a 15th anniversary tour for their classic album 'Turn On The Bright Lights'.
Sziget Festival began in 1993 as a small student event. In 1994, it was referred to as Eurowoodstock and featured bands from the original Woodstock. Last year, the festival reached an all time high with 496,000 visitors — roughly the same amount as the population of Sacramento, California. Last year's festival featured performances from Sia and Rihanna. The festival, where music and culture are framed by nature and the 'other-worldliness' of the location, is often labeled as Europe's answer to Burning Man.
