Katie Holmes To Co-Star in An Extra Man

Katie Holmes, who just wrapped up a surprisingly well-received run on Broadway, is returning to film. The actress will star with Kevin Kline, Paul Dano, and John C. Reilly in The Extra Man, a New York-themed comedy that is set to begin production in the Big Apple next month. Holmes relocated to NYC last year in order to accommodate her stage gig.

American Splendor directors Robert Pulcini and Shari Springer Berman will co-direct the film, which is loosely based on a Jonathan Ames novel. Pulcini and Springer Berman co-wrote the script with Ames. The film will follow Kline as a failed playwright who also works as an escort for rich widows living lavishly on the Upper East Side. He eventually becomes a mentor to Dano's aspiring young playwright.
