Katrina Leskanich, formerly of the Katrina & The Waves, will be releasing her new live album on July 20 and has teamed up with Pledge Music to give back to fans and Glenn Close's Bring Change 2 Mind and Samaritans Charity. This will help her get her show on the road. Katrina is embracing a direct-to-fan release for her upcoming tour, album release and promotion for the Bring Change 2 Mind and Samaritans charities. Katrina explained in a statement that "it's great to be able to help and support Samaritans which provide 24/7 confidential emotional support to people in distress." Katrina and The Waves recorded 'Love Shine a Light' in 1996 in support of fundraising for Samaritans, as well.
Bring Change 2 Mind supports people with diagnosable mental illness and was launched by actress Glenn Close. Katrina also stated, "When I first heard of this charity it resonated with me as when I was celebrating the success of a very happy song, 'Walking on Sunshine,' I was dealing with the pain of the suicide of my sister, Holly, as a result of her long struggle with mental illness." Executive Director, Nancy Evans stated, "With Katrina's help and support through Pledge Music, we can continue our efforts in erasing the stigma of mental illness and help create an atmosphere of hope for thousands of people around the world."
Katrina concluded, "So it's really important to me that charities like Samaritans and BC2M are able to reach out to the people who need them. I'm really looking forward to working with Pledge Music, Samaritans and BC2M in 2010 - I think it will be a fun way of interacting with my fans – especially helping me to fund my tour that will take me into intimate gigs into the living rooms of my fans that pledge and help give to these life changing charities!" Each pledge will help both tour costs and Katrina's charity efforts."
Katrina will use Pledge Music to post pictures, videos, rare recordings and updates on the road while encouraging the fans to meet her in person when she comes through their town. Every pledger will receive a digital copy of the forthcoming live LP and have the opportunity for all kinds of VIP experiences.
