It hasn't all been easy going for Katy Perry as of late, but it seems like all those rough nights and hard fought days are paying off. The singer's new album, Witness, has debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200. This is Perry's third consecutive number one studio album.
Witness sold 180,000 total copies in its first week out. And this the best-selling week by a female artist since Lady Gaga's Joanne sold 201,000 first week copies in November of last year. Last week, Halsey became the first female artist to top the Billboard 200 in 2017, this week Hopeless Fountain Kingdom dropped to number seven.
Three other new releases found their way onto the chart this week. SZA's debut LP, Ctrl, came in at number three. Lady Antebellum's Heart Break finished in fourth, and Rise Against's new record, Wolves, debuted at number nine.
Much of the rest of the chart stayed the same. Kendrick Lamar's newest effort, DAMN., stayed at number two. Drake's More Life finished fifth, Ed Sheeran's Divide came in sixth, and Bruno Mars' 24K Magic stuck at eight. Post Malone, meanwhile, climbed to number 10 to round out the chart.
Will Lorde make it three consecutive weeks of ladies reigning over the Billboard 200 with her new album Melodrama? Will Katy Perry be able to keep her crown? Or will someone unsuspecting climb to the throne? You'll just have to tune in next Monday to find out.
