Keith Richards, children's book author? Yep!
The guitarist for The Rolling Stones will release Gus & Me: The Story of My Granddad and My First Guitar as both a hardcover book with a CD and an e-book on September 9.
In the book, Richards, 70, will revisit some of the childhood memories he unearthed while writing his memoir Life. Many of those fond memories surrounded his relationship with Theodore Augustus Dupree, his maternal grandfather, a jazz musician who encouraged the Rolling Stone to pick up his guitar in the first place.
He became a legend thanks to grandpa's support.
His daughter Theodora Dupree Richards, who was named after her great grandfather, is collaborating with her dad on the book. She will be illustrating the book with pen and ink collages, while Richards will compose the text, with assists from Barnaby Harris and Bill Shapiro.
It's an all-in-the-Richards-family book.
"I have just become a grandfather for the fifth time, so I know what I'm talking about," Richards said. "The bond, the special bond, between kids and grandparents is unique and should be treasured. This is a story of one of those magical moments. May I be as great a grandfather as Gus was to me."
Wow! We want this book for our coffee tables. Maybe it'll inspire Mick Jagger to do a book for kids.
