Kendrick Lamar, Norah Jones, & Nicki Minaj Flip In Top Music Videos Of The Week - April 21
Thu, 20 Apr 2017 12:26:50
Last week was all about Kendrick Lamar, but by the look of his new music video, it doesn't look as if he will be releasing his hold on the throne any time soon. Lamar grabbed none other than Don Cheadle for his music video for "DNA", and the results were tremendous as they were disturbing. On the flipside, apologies, Norah Jones jumped on the slippery social protest train and had excellent result, which is no easy feat — just ask Kendall Jenner.
Lil Yachty added to his already impressive harbor by teaming up with Atlanta hitmakers Migos on "Peek A Boo". Mac Miller impressed everyone with last year's Divine Feminine, and now he has taken things a step further by dropping a 12-minute video for his Ty Dolla $ign collaboration, "Out in the Storm". And that was only the beginning for a week filled with stunning eye candy.
Here are our favorites:
Kendrick Lamar — "DNA"
If you haven't heard Kendrick Lamar's DAMN. you are missing out, but if you only have a few minutes, we highly recommend you check out his video for album stunner "DNA". Lamar grabbed Don Cheadle to co-star in the video and the results are stunning. Cheadle may not have won an Oscar as of yet, but is performance here certainly deserves accolades.
Norah Jones — "Flipside"
Standing in blue, green, and purple light Norah Jones takes in clips of people protesting throughout history. Videos about social justice and protest are not easy to get right, but Jones' "Flipside" is pure class. It manages to be politically relevant without seeming forced.
Lil Yachty — "Peek A Boo" [ft. Migos]
Lil Yachty is turning into a frightening force in the world of rap and in his newest video he joins up with rap's hottest stars Migos. "Peek A Boo" is fierce, scary, and is a strong show of what might be the most intimidating team out of Georgia since Outkast. Just don't watch it with the lights out.
Nicki Minaj — "No Frauds"
Nicki Minaj reigns over London in "No Frauds", and with Drake and Lil Wayne by her side, few are going to doubt her place on the throne. Nicki certainly looks the part dressed in jewels and it's clear the spared no expense for the shoot. It seems as if she is just getting finer with time.
Mac Miller — "Cinderella" [ft. Ty Dolla $ign]
Directed by Bo Mirosseni, Mac Miller's video for "Cinderella" is an epic. Taking part in two sequences, Miller and collaborator Ty Dolla $ign heading to a club where they sing alongside women dressed in angels and motion-capture suits, and the second where Miller finds himself doused in confetti while being watched by masked men. The video is an excellent way to spend to spend your Saturday morning hangover.
