The May 2005 marriage of ten-gallon hat-wearing country singer Kenny Chesney and baby-voiced, Oscar-winning actress Renee Zellweger –there goes that Oscar winning curse that has been said to plague Sandra Bullock, Reese Witherspoon and other Best Actress/Best Supporting Actress Winners- lasted merely months before being annulled by the couple. The duo rarely spoke out about the dissolution of the marriage…until recently, when Chesney opened up about the failed relationship, claiming that he couldn't figure out how to make career and marriage co-exist. That's called multi-tasking, Ken, and millions of us do it daily and without the type of salary you command, thank you very much.
It was Zellweger who had the marriage annulled, citing "fraud" as the reason, which raised many eyebrows. She quickly stated that the term was a legal one and that she had nothing but fondness for Chesney as a man.
Last week on Oprah, Chesney claimed that his professional life claimed his marital one! He placed it in the context of a box, saying, "I look at it as a box, my life as a box... so everything that I put in, learning how to play guitar, put in that box, friends I made. I put in that box. My career grew and everything around me, all the awards and all the songs I wrote and all the success, everything, I put in that box. And that box grew to this wonderful house." He continued, "You protect everything and all the relationships and all the people that helped you build that house... I protected that box and I didn't know if I could do both." Ken, how about thinking outside of that box? It's not a novel concept. Celebrities, man. They're insane!
He also called Zellweger a "very sweet soul." He also divulged that he is in a relationship and would like to have children.
Are all celebrity couplings doomed to fail?
