Kid Cudi "The Ruler and the Killer" Song Review — 5 out of 5 stars

Kid Cudi's "The Ruler and the Killer" is a gripping psychological hunt that captures the intensity integral to The Hunger Games.
The centerpiece of the film's companion album, The Hunger Games: Songs from District 12 and Beyond, "The Ruler and the Killer" sees Cudi once again burning down boundaries and conquering new territory.
Brooding tribal drums mount methodically as swells of distortion moan through a haze of sparse production. Cudi's voice echoes authoritatively like some kind of hip hop Hannibal Lecter reminding his victims, "Remember you belong to me." The track conjures a vibe akin to something like Marilyn Manson's "I Put a Spell on You" or "Apple of Sodom," while maintaining The Man on the Moon's intergalactic panache. It's a devilishly fun romp through the darkness that's unlike anything on the album or out there for that matter. Like he did on WZRD's wonderful debut, Cudi fearlessly redefines alternative once again with "The Ruler and the Killer."
Don't mess with "The Ruler and the Killer" and definitely don't mess with Cudi.
