Kid Sister Signs to Downtown Records
Hip-hop wunderfemme, Kid Sister, has finally found a record label to call home. After releasing a handful of singles on her own, Downtown Records (home to Gnarls Barkley and Art Brut) have won the battle for the highly-sought after lady rapper. Kid Sister will be releasing her debut album on the label's more dance and hip hop-oriented Fool's Gold imprint.Though Kid Sister was relatively unknown until 2007, she's been noticed by a few key sources. URB Magaizne hailed her as one of the best new artists in their 2007 "Next 1,000" issue—where she graced the cover with her (younger) brother, who is one part of DJ-duo Flosstradamus—and she's already collaborated with Kanye West in the video for "Pro Nails". Label owner, John Deutsch, has lauded her decision, saying, "Kid Sister is one of the most exciting new voices in music today and we are thrilled to welcome her to Downtown."
Now that she's on-the-radar, mainstream outlets have gotten wise; MTV has selected her to appear on Spankin' New Ladies Week on TRL, which is set to air Thursday, February 28th. She will also be making the trek to SXSW, playing at the Fool's Gold official showcase Saturday, March 15. No information on the recording of her debut album has been released.
