Killer Mike, one part of hip-hop duo Run the Jewels, joined presidential candidate Senator Bernie Sanders, American philosopher and author Cornel West (who recently published a book on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.), and Ohio State Senator Nina Turner to discuss the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The discussion took place in Charleston, South Carolina, and is a follow up to the six-part, December 2015 interview Killer Mike did with Bernie Sanders.

Pitchfork reports that Killer Mike introduced himself: "I am Michael Render – that's what my mom named me – Killer Mike is what my dumb friends called me in a rap battle once and it stuck." He went on to discuss "his introduction to the ideas of Dr. King, the adversity his own family faced during Ronald Reagan's presidency, and Sanders' continuation of King's ideas."

Last year, in honor of Martin Luther King Day, Killer Mike wrote an op-ed piece about the importance of the civil rights leader. In it, Mike asks, "Will you continue where Martin left off? Will you join other protesters in the streets to end police policy that targets and kills blacks and darker people globally?"
