Metal fans, rejoice. Killswitch Engage are back with a new album, Disarm the Descent, which will release on April 2. Put a note in those calendars, planners and smartphones, as this is very good news. KsE were one of the biggest bands behind the '00s resurgence of metal, pushing the genre forward into a new era. We admit, they were our faves of the batch of bands that pushed metal to the forefront as part of the NWOAHM aka The New Wave of American Heavy Metal.
The album is the band's sixth effort.
The 12-track record is the follow up to 2009's self-titled release. That was actually the second time the band released a self-titled affair. Their 2000 debut on Ferret Music was self-titled. So make note of that, all you music trivia buffs.
Disarm the Descent is also the band's first album with original singer Jesse Leach at the vocal helm since 2002's now classic, genre-defining Alive or Just Breathing. Leach returned to the band in January 2012 after a decade-long absence. So even though the band has two self-titled albums in its catalog, one is with Leach and one is with former singer Howard Jones, who replaced Leach and whom Leach replaced. Still with us? Good, you should be!
The first single, "In Due Time," will be made available digitally on February 5. Album pre-orders will kick off in early February, as well, with more details forthcoming.
"It is with a grateful spirit that we prepare for this record's release," Leach said in a press statement. "From the music, to the lyrics, to the artwork, we are all proud of what we have accomplished. To me this is by far my best vocal performance, much thanks to Adam's guidance and faith in my abilities. I am very grateful to be where I am in life, back in an amazing band with a record we are all excited for the world to hear. Thanks to all the fans for their warm welcome back and their undying love for Killswitch Engage."
