Kris Allen Wins ‘American Idol’

Nearly 100 million votes later, Kris Allen—a softspoken 23 year old from Conway, Arkansas—took home this season’s American Idol title last night.

“Are you freakin’ serious?” Allen said, after beating Allen Lambert. “It feels good man, but Adam deserves this. I don’t even know what to feel right now. This is crazy. Thank you so much.”

In a rare moment of sheer sincerity judge Simon Cowell added, “I thought you were both brilliant, unusually, incredibly nice people and I think both of you should be incredibly proud of what you achieved last night.” As for the season finale’s special guests, they included Steve Martin, Queen guitarist Brian May, and Keith Urban.
