During an interview with the British music magazine NME, American pop icon Lady Gaga called recent accusations of plagiarism "retarded." Gaga, an outspoken advocate for the LGBT community, has since apologized, acknowledging that her use of the word undermines the social causes with which she frequently associates! Gaga is a good girl for doing so.
"I consider it part of my life's work and music to push the boundaries of love and acceptance," said Gaga in a statement released through celebrity blogger Perez Hilton. "To anyone that was hurt, please know that it was furiously unintentional."
She continued, quoting her own lyrics from "Born This Way," which has been described as a carbon copy of Madonna's "Express Yourself," saying, "Whether life's disabilities left you outcast, bullied or teased, rejoice and love yourself today."
